August 7, 2011 A bloom from the narrow budded 'Compassion' seedling, #C-2008-2. The bloom is semi-double and, even in my very chilly garden, nicely fragrant of vanilla, roses and lemon. It's a Hybrid Tea and a short climber. There is a sister-seedling in bud now, #C-2008-3, definitely a climber and equally fragrant. Compare this to the previous shot of that bloom HT formed bloom. The fat, purple bud in the back is 'Ebb Tide'.

This is another yellow seedling from the same set of open-pollinated hips gathered from 'Compassion', #C-2008-2. These blooms are looser petaled and only semi-double. They look like Southern Magnolias when in bloom... a little more yellow than cream and definitely fragrant. The plant is a sprawly shrub or small climber, but it's still in a big pot, not planted out.
