Book (Dec 1998) Page(s) 632. Includes photo(s). Wini Edmunds Modern, large-flowered hybrid tea. Red blend, repeat-flowering. The bright red, double flowers have lighter pink and white undersides. The blooms have classic Large-flowered form and are ideal for the show bench; particularly as they are long lasting. The color becomes more intense in cool weather, and growers in warmer climates may therefore be a little disappointed with the flowers during the summer heat. It is a strong grower with tough, dark green foliage that is slightly prone to black spot, so it should be monitored all season so that the best blooms are produced. Zones 5-9. Raised by Sam McGredy and named as a surprise present for the wife of his American agent Fred Edmunds, 'Wini Edmunds' is certainly a striking flower in blood-red with a white reverse. Large and shapely, it would be a fine choice for prizes on the show bench. It was introduced in 1973. From the parentage, it is probably happiest in cool climates. This is fitting, as the Edmunds nursery is in Oregon. Foliage is dark green, glossy and leathery. 'Red Lion' x 'Hanne'. Repeat flowering. fragrant.
Book (1976) Page(s) 50. John and Nola Simpson. Some of our New Ones. Wini Edmunds HT. An unusual shade of strawberry and cream exhibition blooms. It has not a great many petals, but they are very crisp and hold well. Growth and freedom of flowering are excellent. A variety that impresses.
