About the name: Bottyán János (1643?-1709) is perhaps the best-known general of the Hungarian army in the freedom fight against the Austrians between 1703-1712. A former hero of the anti-turkish wars in the second half of the 18th century, he joined to Ferenc Rákóczi's rebel army in 1703. The popular general was called by his soldiers "Vak" ("Blind") Bottyán because of his missing one eye (due an earlier injury).
