Nola Simpson. Final Analysis 1993-94.
'Joyce Isobel' (SIMjoy); Simpson 1987;'Gypsy Moth' x Seedling; soft salmon pink; 27 reports on 35 bushes; 1-7 years; 1.6 metres; 7.3 rating. Grown only in restricted areas of New Zealand and, for the most part, reports have been reasonably satisfied without being overly enthusiastic. Its chief attributes are given as health, few thorns, good repeat, attractive colour and the ability of the blooms to stand up well to adverse weather for a pale rose. On the down side, the blooms are inclined to be on the small side and often have scalloped petals. It can give the occasional exhibition bloom. An attractive garden rose.

Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1992-93 Season
'Joyce Isobel' (SIMjoy); Simpson 1987; 'Gypsy Moth' x Seedling; soft salmon pink; 9 reports on 10 bushes; 1-7 years; 1.6 metres; 7.0 rating. Not a widely grown rose and some only reporting for the first time. Enthusiasm is not high in general, poor repeat mentioned by some, others free flowering. I do not think it has appreciated the weather this year. The blooms tend to be variable in size and shape, chief attribute is the soft pink colour which stands adverse weather well and in most seasons it is very healthy. A Canterbury grower says it is weak and got mildew and black spot - does not sound like the right rose! Doing well in Gisbome, Franklin and Marlborough.

Don Sheppard. Review of Newer Roses for 1990-91 Season.
'Joyce Isobel'. Simpson. Soft salmon; 4 reports on 6 bushes, 2-5 years, 1.3 metres, 7.5 rating. This comparatively unknown rose is quite highly rated by North and south Island growers as a tall growing healthy floriferous rose; nearly thornfree too. Blooms are pleasing in classic form, if a little small, and repeat is good. Makes one wish to know more of 'Joyce Isobel'.
