Book (2000) Page(s) 115. Final Analysis 1999-2000. ‘Aorangi’. Sandbrook 1995. Sport of ‘Sylvia’; neat white; 82 reports on 155 bushes; 1.6 metres; 7.8 rating. Reports from all over the country like the colour and the form, with a great number stating that it is like its parent, ‘Sylvia’, in all respects except the colour. Also like ‘Sylvia’, it marks very easily in the rain. It can also take powdery mildew, but otherwise it is an upright grower that gives plenty of roses of good form and is a robust plant. At its best, good for showing and picking. Well up on the list of favourite hybrid teas.

Book (1998) Page(s) 91. Nola Simpson. review of Newer Roses for 1997-98 Season. 'Aorangi' HT. Sandbrook, 1995. sport of 'Sylvia', near white. 18 reports on 26 bushes, 1-7 years, 1.6 metres. 7.9 rating. Good reports again this year from most areas of the country and in general the comments have been favourable. The general consensus is that this HT is an excellent exhibition rose and is the best white for this purpose available today. Several reporters indicated its vulnerability in the wet, balling up in very wet conditions and spotting on the petals like its parent 'Sylvia'. Marlborough indicates it is the best exhibition white, mites fancy it and there is some powdery mildew. Franklin considers it a lovely exhibition white, repeats well, strong grower, blooms are best in the spring, some spotting in the rain. A report from Auckland was anything but complimentary on an own budded plant, got every disease imaginable and the flowers were poor. A report from Canterbury says it spots less than 'Sylvia' and another from Canterbury says it improves each year and is a lovely exhibition in the spring, some powdery mildew and thrip damage. Napier reports plenty of basal growths produced, good repeat, strong growth. Northland considers it a must if you are an exhibitor, very vigorous. All in all a very good HT and well worth growing.
Book (1997) p89 Nola Simpson. review of Newer Roses for 1996-97 Season. 'Aorangi' Sandbrook, 1995. sport of 'Sylvia' near white. 16 reports on 25 bushes, 1-4 years, 1.6 metres, 7.8 rating. Good reports again this year from most areas of the country and in general the comments have been favourable. A report from Te Awamutu says it weathers better than 'Sylvia', lovely exhibition rose, grows well with a tidy upright bush which is well clothed and mostly healthy. Bay of Plenty says it has a long vase life, weathers well for a white, spring blooming is the best. Northland reporters says it is a good exhibition but marks in the rain like 'Sylvia'. Manawatu growers rate it highly, lovely off white with pink tinge, excellent exhibition, spots a little in the rain but not as bad as 'Sylvia'. Reports from Canterbury and Marlborough both suggest it is the best exhibition white available, another from Marlborough says it is no good in the wet. From Franklin excellent exhibition, strong grower and very healthy. It would appear that this Silver Star winner has a very promising future.

Book (1996) Includes photo(s). p44. Peter Elliot. In the Trial grounds, 1995-96. Local Rosarians were thrilled to see that the former Dannevirke exhibitor and trial ground judge Rita Sandbrook's rose had been awarded the Silver Star of the city of Palmerston North. this lovely rose, called 'Aorangi', is a sport of the very popular 'Sylvia' and has many of its fine characteristics, making it an excellent HT for exhibition. It is almost white with a slight hint of palest pink.

p90 Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1995-96 Season. 'Aorangi' Sandbrook 1995; Sport of 'Sylvia'; near white; 17 reports on 29 bushes; 1-2 years; 1.6 metres; 7.8 rating. The first reports on this new HT which is a sport of the popular 'Sylvia'. Most of the reports are favourable finding it an excellent rose, very like 'Sylvia' in shape and growth habit, a Marlborough grower prefers it to 'Sylvia' with less spotting and marking in the rain - this is reiterated by reports from Canterbury, Te Awamutu, Manawatu, Auckland, Bay of Plenty and one from Franklin. On the downside a Norhland report thinks not as good as 'Sylvia', Taupo not impressed with spotting in the rain and South Canterbury says lovely rose but does ball in the wet. Slight powdery mildew is the only disease reported. This is a rose with a good future, won the Silver Star in the Trial Ground last November.
