I have my Boscobel growing in a container in the SF Bay Area. I think I've had it 2-3 years. The color of the blooms can be astoundingly beautiful, especially with the Spring flush. Later the blooms are here and there but the color is muddy dark pink which I don't find very appealing. The fragrance is not strong and can vary, smells the best with the Spring flush. The usual black spot shows up now and again but not too bad. I'm keeping it but it's not a great rose in my opinion a good rose never-the-less. I will say I picked a bloom from Boscobel a couple of days ago ( early November ) and it was very VERY beautiful, it was the only one on the bush. Wish they all were that gorgeous...
Many of the photos posted here are spot on and show the best coloring of Boscobel. There are a lot of truly talented photographer here, and rose growers as well!

surprisingly a work horse in my climate. gives basal canes in May! Gives continues flushes of bloom, scent is medium but very delicious, especially on a sunny day. Holds its flower well, upright and blooms last around a week. Can't recommend this enough.

My 2nd year with this rose and I've still to detect any fragrance. I also find it has a a very poor re-bloom, just one decent show, June to July then as of writing this it has given me a handful of blooms over several weeks since the end of the first flush. Did the same in its first year but I thought it would improve as it got established.

Perhaps Boscobel performs quite differently in different zones? I'm in Maine zone 5a, and of my 9 rose bushes, I find the smell of Boscobel to be the best of all of them. In my garden, the smell is just as strong as Princess Alexandra of Kent, and stronger (for me) than Crown Princess Margareta. I get consistent blooms from Boscobel as well. Even though the temps have been getting into the 30s at night (in October), Boscobel still has a few open flowers and buds, while most of my other rose bushes are just about done for the season.

How large does 'Boscobel' grow for you? I am also in zone 5, upstate NY, and am about to give up on Austin roses. For me, while they do survive winters, they never put out more than a few canes each season.

This summer was my 2nd season with Boscobel, and it's about 2.5-3 ft tall x 3 ft wide, so still pretty modest. I bought Boscobel in summer 2021 at a local garden center in a 2.5 gallon pot. I don't know if it's own root or grafted, but my guess is that it's grafted. I winter-protect my DA roses with rose collars filled up with soil, tie together the canes that extend above the rose collar with twine, then wrap the canes that are tied together in row cover and stuff some leaves into the row cover wrapping for extra insulation. I have no idea if that helps the bushes bloom in the summer, but it does help them get through winter without too much cane loss -- especially because I get a ton of wind where I am. During the growing season, I fertilize with a fish fertilizer to start, then rose-tone when I see buds forming, and then another round of rose-tone or another fertilizer I have on hand in August. I also add a layer of compost to the soil once in May and once in September/October. My only observation about blooming is that I've noticed that roses really don't do well for me unless they get full sun.

Is regrowing strongly now (end April) after its first winter. It hadn't grown very much last year so die back brought it to just over ground level, but I gave no winter protection aside from about 6" of snow. Not in a sheltered spot. Zone 5b near Syracuse, NY

I grow this too! (I am from Syracuse, but live north of Boston now). I love reading your comments. I used to go to the Mills Rose garden often. I was there this past summer. I love seeing all the New Dawn’s there. That is where I discovered Palatine growers. It is a very special place. Now, as far as Boscobel, I am having a heck of a time keeping the bunnies away frond my 5 Boscobels. I have them in chicken wire cages now. The bunnies need to go!!!
