A vigorous shrub; the flower is large, full, globular and of a purplish red color, with the center a vivid and velvety crimson.

The Roses of 1881...Marquise d'Alex (hybrid perpetual, Brassac) does not have my applause, as its thick, firmly wrapped, densely filled, globular blooms do not expand whenraining; wood and foliage dark, few strong red prickles. Rank 2-3.

Madame la marquise d'Alex. — Rosier hybride remontant très vigoureux, fleurs grandes, pleines, bien faites, coloris rouge pourpre, contre velouté, cramoisi vif.
