Bloom: Violet-red to dark purple, butter-yellow center, light pink flecks.  Purple-red with some spotting..  Mild to strong, old rose, spice fragrance.  8 to 15 petals.  Small to medium, semi-double (9-16 petals), borne mostly solitary, cupped bloom form.  Sparse, once-blooming spring or summer.  Medium, glandular sepals, leafy sepals buds.   
Habit: Tall, lax.  Medium, semi-glossy, dark green, edged purple-red, fragrant, maroon highlights  foliage.  5 to 9 leaflets.  
 
Growing: Can be used for beds and borders or shrub.  Very vigorous.  a good subject for pegging.  Disease susceptibility: disease resistant, very blackspot resistant., very mildew resistant, susceptible to rust .   
Breeder's notes: Gorgeous foliage: lovely fall color in particular. Powdery, "bloomy" bark on younger canes.
 I am not entirely sure the seed parent is the Duchesse: it is a thornless gallica with similar blooms.
