" Grape Jelly™ ‘Meimauleva’ PPAF
Class/Color: Deep lavender, burgundy, does not fade, floribunda • Bloom/Size: Small petals • Height/Habit: Bushy and upright, up to 5 ½’ h • Petal Count: 5–8 • Fragrance: None noticeable • Parentage: The Fairy X Frantasia* Hybridizer: Meilland® International • Introducer: Star® Roses and Plants • Comments: Grape Jelly™ has a great novelty color of deep lavender to burgundy depending on the climate. This floribunda rose will work well everywhere except in areas with high pressure for black spot. It grows well on its own roots. Best for the West Coast."

I've been growing it a year. Dumb name, but actually a fine rose. I do take issue however with the sale of this rose as a climber, which is how Star/Meilland is marketing it in Star's latest catalog. It doesn't get over five feet as far as I can tell, and is really a perfect florrie in bloom cluster form. See, https://www.starrosesandplants.com/plants/floribunda-rose/grape-jelly

I second your assessment, awkward floribunda architecture (imho) notwithstanding. I am hopeful that with maturity the form will become more balanced in my garden.

Thus far this rose has faired better than expected in my no-spray central Texas garden. Yes, it is somewhat susceptible to BS as one might expect given its father, but I have roses rated as having "excellent" disease resistance by hmf reviewers that have fared much worse. Mine is not yet well established, yet resides among some pretty unhealthy plants. (I otherwise have little remaining in my garden rated below "excellent" and mother nature will undoubtedly facilitate further culling, namely of a few, to my mind, highly overrated cultivars.)

I will plan on updating this review as plant becomes better established.

[edit] As it matures and acquires better feet under it, the BS isn't bothersome in my garden this year, and I feel it's resistance is somewhat underrated. This is, to date, one of, if not *the* most generous bloomer amongst my mauve roses.

This rose is listed as a climber in the Star Roses catalog.

It sure doesn't grow as a climber. Betcha it's a mistake in the catalog.
