A Certificate of Merit was awarded to Strawberry Blonde (Somnanmar) HT-Floribunda, bred by Rob Somerfield, Glenavon Roses Trial No 4984. This rose looked the goods too, when the flower first came out I instantly fall in love, a rich burnt apricot orange colour and the dark bronzy green glossy foliage had me melting, I thought another Whisky coloured rose with good bushy habit. But sadly it got a little powdery mildew and a bit of rust in the summer, the flowers would burn in the hot summer sun and it made a few lanky growths late in the season. It will still be purchased for the garden, as those early flowers left a permanent impression that is imbedded in my mind.
