Girija, parentage added. A couple of questions: - what class would you place 'E. K. Janaki Ammal' in? - The pollen parent is the same complicated cross as in 'Takako-Tradition's Torch?. Is it the same unnamed seedling? - Is 'Little Darling x (R.clinophylla x R. bracteata)' also the same seedling in both cases, as well as in 'Ganges Mist'? - Finally is the cross R. clinophylla x R. bracteata the same seedling in all cases? If so, it would be great to have e.g. seedling numbers and have separate listings. In that manner we would be able to show the relationships of the cultivars to each other.

Jedmar Thanks The rose E K Janaki Ammal is a shrub but can be grown as a short climber The answer to all the other questions is YES The pollen parent is the same complicated cross as in Takako- Tradition's Torch and Ganges Mist. Little Darling x (R.clinophylla x R. bracteata) is the same seedling in all these roses (R.clinophylla x R. bracteata) is the same seedling used in all the crosses. Since the pollen parent which is a combination of different parents, is a very old seedling we will need to check our old records and hopefully be able to come up with the seedling numbers and dates. If you could please add the below: Janaki Ammal was a cytogeneticist. She co- authored, along with C D Darlington, ‘The Chromosome Atlas of All Living Plants’, first edition, 1945. Though from India she was the first woman in the USA to earn a PhD in Botany in 1926 from the University of Michigan. She won a Barbour Scholarship , and in 1931 the same University gave her an honorary doctorate ( D.Sc honoris causa). She worked at the John Innes Institute, UK, at Kew, and at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Wisley garden, apart from the Botanical Survey of India.

The source was only a link to the fb-description of E.K. Janaki Ammal rose. I have added M. S. Viraraghavan to avoid confusion.
