The "Buffalo Rose” has some features of the John Hopper family, but is more likely to have a button eye. Various branches of a South Australian family say it was brought here in the SS Buffalo, which arrived in 1836, but there were few Hybrid Perpetuals around before it left the UK.

'Buffalo' Rose.  (Renamed Old Rose) 1836.  Rose plants brought on the HMS 'Buffalo' with the first settlers to South Australia.  Grown by descendants of the family who arrived in Glenelg 1836.  Rich pink very double. Fragrant.
