Book (1824) Page(s) tab 8. Includes photo(s). ROSA canina emarginata. Emarginated Dog Rose.
SPECIFIC CHARACTER. Rose with egg-shaped seed-buds, and smooth peduncles, furnished at the base with bracteas; flowers semi-double; leaflets ovate, serrate, and pointed; footstalks and younger branches prickly; stem erect or spreading.
This Rose was raised at the Hammersmith Nursery in the summer of 1824, from seed of the Hip Briar, and again budded on the same wild species, the common mode of cultivation now in practice, which gives vigour to the plant. It is known by the specific title of emarginata, and is at present much esteemed as a new and delicate variety. [Fascicle number not known]
