The "prefers dry climates" is related to it's tendency to ball. Has been off and on wet for a few weeks. every bloom has balled so far. Removed the brown petals and inside found some of the most extreme proliferation, no reproductive parts found on any flower yet. Maybe it'll clear up in other flushes.

Still not a decent flower yet, just balled browning blooms. Did just open one that had been munched on by some grub and found it was normal looking inside and was able to collect stamens...now to see how well it releases pollen.
