It's worth a shot. Do you have 'Ann Endt'?

I am raising an Ann Endt x Ann Endt seedling. It germinated last autumn, so it is 1 years old now. It should begin repeating by year 3, which is what hybrid rugosas seem to do. However, it has zero mildew and rust, which is excellllllllenntttt for a 1rst year rugosa seedling. I selfed it with the intent of crossing it to a true red synstylae type, like Art Deco, with the intent of making a diploid edible hip type project, since anthocyanin and peonin presence tends to produce sweeter hips. However, I could see how this same hybrid could create a xeriscape hybrid out of the ancient southwest roses.

Lots of possibilities there. Stellata has a tendency toward Summer dormancy.

That's why it's drought tolerant. It looks dead but it isn't. It's hard to know how hybrid seedlings would behave.

I'd love to see some other diploids combinations out of your seedling.
