Champlain A small shrub with glossy foliage tinted red. It is disease-resistant, even relatively aphid resistant. The flowers are semi-double, deep velvety red. It is the least hardy Explorer, often killing to the ground in severe winters, betraying its floribunda heritage.

A R. kordesii hybrid and has the characteristic glossy leaves and long shoots of this group. Flowers are semi-double, deep red with showy yellow stamens. It blooms prolifically. It is relatively healthy, but the lower leaves can get blackspot. It has hardiness problems in the coldest areas. It is best tied up, as its sparse shoots will otherwise form an open prostrate shrub.
