Días de Rosas
(19 Nov 2008)

..I suspect Angelita Ruaix falls into the category of "filler" roses, but I really like it. The shrub is not very vigorous. The foliage, dark green, glossy and healthy, is small. The blooms, semi-double, have an original colour spectrum. Her perfume is discreet.
Attached is the description which Friera, author of Rosas de España gives of Angelita.
Angelita Ruaix. HT (P. Dot, 1940)
Duquesa de Peñaranda x President Herbert Hoover
Pointed blooms, orange-yellow. Very vigorous bush and healthy foliage.

Coralín is a spectacle, flowering exuberantly. I like the contrast between the so striking colour and the so rounded form of its buds, and the pink when it expands....has no fragrance.

Duquesa de Peñaranda...is also known as Morning Blush. A Pernetiana, in its lineage Souvenir de Claudius Pernet as seed and pollen from a now-defunct Dot rose named Rosella....The description of Friera...:
Large semi-double bloom, orange-salmon, fragrant. Exceptionally vigorous and floriferous, very glossy foliage. Godd for growing in pots. Gold medal in Pedralbes, 1929, Gold Medal in Portland (USA), 1933.

The author [Friera] adds the following data:
Retaing the same features as the Spanish variety, there is a Climbing Duquesa de Peñaranda, a sport released by Germain Seed & Plant Co., of California, 1940.
....This is a hybrid tea with perfectly pointed bud, when expands becomes a charming, but messy bloom. ....although it holds the Mediterranean heat well, lasts very short and matures quickly. ...has an acceptable repeat, but is not a rose which blooms in masses. Unlike other Pernetianas, not very susceptible to fungal attacks....The name refers to the Duchy of Peñaranda in Duero, Burgos...

Li Burés is a hybrid tea of 1927, obtained by Pere Dot by crossing Chateau de Clos Vougeot and Souvenir de Claudius Pernet. Of such parents, one would not expect another result as to colouring, intense and variable. Friera describes it thus:
Medium size bloom, only semi-double, ochre-yellow undertones washed with pink and red, very fragrant. Vigorous plant with very ...and glossy foliage, perfumed. ...
...Received a Certificate of Merit at Bagatelle (1929). In 1928 achieved a Certificate of the National Horticultural Society of France and in 1930 a new Certificate in the International Competition of Haywards Heath....has much more resistance to fungi than other Dot roses...
...Eulàlia Regordosa, or Li Burés...was married to a member of the Burés family...textile industrialists originating in the region of Bages.

Dot Roses: Mercè
....is a rose created 1992 by Pere Dot junior. I find the cross quite interesting. On the one hand, the forever famous Chrysler Imperial, strongly fragrant and sometimes more susceptible than desirable to fungal diseases, as seed. As for the pollen, Centre de Lectura was selected, which Pere Dot senior obtained in 1959 from the crossing of two highly popular roses, Texas Centennial (seed) and Mme. Meilland (pollen).
The rose, generally large and solitary, full of high-centred petals, has conserved....the colour spectrum of its father, Centro di Lectura, tending towards fuchsia or magenta. Chrysler Imperial adds a remarkably powerful perfume and I think a tendency towards rather delicate foliage. Foliage which is sufficiently treated, especially against powdery mildew, is quite striking, both for its size and light green colour.

Dot Roses: Nácar or Sant Feliu de Llobregat
....As the grandchildren of Pere Dot told me, Rosa Dot is a rose which has originated various sports or spontaneous mutations, among which we must highlight two: Nácar or Sant Feliu de Llobregat rose and Miami Platja

Dot Roses: Nácar or Sant Feliu de Llobregat
....As the grandchildren of Pere Dot told me, Rosa Dot is a rose which has originated various sports or spontaneous mutations, among which we must highlight two: Nácar or Sant Feliu de Llobregat rose and Miami Platja....Nácar is a rose which dates back to 1982 and was obtained by Victor Dot. Her complexion and characteristics are identical to Rosa Dot....Its principal difference to Rosa Dot is the colour of the petals, which are a pearly pink, rather than scarlet.
Originally called 'Sant Feliu de Llobregat', which was too long, was renamed 'Nácar' [Shell]
