Maria Leonida was planted as an edging to one of the beds, and under the treatment here subjected to has a very pretty effect. The shoots are pegged down in spring and clipped in June, this keeps the plant dwarf, and it produces a mass of its beautiful white flowers in the autumn months. Being evergreen, and possessed of fine, large, glossy foliage, it must become a great favourite if cultivated in this manner. It is doubtless well known that under ordinary circumstances the flowers do not expand freely, but the pegging down and clipping which it undergoes entirely cures it of this bad habit.
