'Fantin Latour' That seedlings can come up spontaneously in a garden ..resulting in extraordinarily beautiful rose bushes, is proven by the rose 'Fantin-Latour', which was discovered around 1940 by Graham Stuart Thomas, the english rose expert, author and promoter of old roses, and which is nowadays counts as one of the prototypes of modern English Roses. It is curious how top roses are missing in rose encyclopaedias, simply because they have not been obtained in anglosaxon countries. Think of Awakening, Bouquet Parfait and Pirontina, a climbing rose which was commercialized in 1975 by Pironti.Roselovers all around the world had thus had ample time to discover her. Lies Vandenberghe, many others and myself praise her qualities with good reason. 'Prontina' is not a true climber. It is a shrub which can be guided up against a wall as in the Pink Rosegarden, up on an arbor or a gazebo. The pink colour is cool and pure, the trusses large, the blooms middle-sized, the purity of form and the vigour downright fantastic. 'Pirontina' is under normal care never without blooms. It can be bought at the rose nursery Louis Lens in Oudenburg.
