I have looked for the lineage of this rose for over 10 years and I finally found it. My gut was right to feel it descended from the " Centenaire de Lourdes types".
The Canadian Rose Annual (1992) states: "COCORICO, F (Meilland int '89) (Chaook x Coppelia 76). (yb), light
yellow/bordered carmine pink, 10-13 petals."
One reviewer states: "Langlois (1 pi
1 yr 5' BC): Cream edged cherry red, very showy rose. Semi double bloom,
open form, excellent substance, large clusters. Very vigourous grower, very
wide and tall, almost a Shrub rose. Dense foliage, no disease. "
This is accurate in my experience. This rose is a beast.
Chaook may be a magazine to text translation error. I am unsure what rose Chaook is.
Edit: Canadian Rose Annual (1995) states Chaook is 'Chacok':
"COCORICO (BIRTHDAY GIRL) F (Meilland int '89 NR) (Chacok x
Coppelia 76). YB, light yellow/bordered carmine pink, 10-13 petals. Rome

THIS ROSE DOES AMAZING IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST, AND UNDER TREE'S AS WELL. I HAVE 3, ONE UNDER A LILAC , ONE UNDER A MAPLE AND ONE IN FULL SUN. ALL 3 ARE EQUALLY HUGE. MY ONE UNDER THE LILAC IS 7 YEARS OLD NOW AND CLIMBS ABOUT 14 FEET INTO THE TREE, THIS ROSE COULD BE CLASSIFED AS A SHRUB OR A CLIMBER, CAUSE ITS GROWTH IS SO PROLIFIC, AND THE BLOOMS ARE SO AMAZING, AND THEY COME IN CLUSTERS THAT CAN NOT BE NUMBERED. ALAS, NO FRAGRANCE. BUT THE FOLAIGE AND THE BLOOMS MAKE UP FOR IT. A GREAT DISEASE FREE ROSE. OH, RAIN DOES CAUSE SPOTTING ON THE FLOWERS THOUGH.
