Hi Patricia! Pretty certain you have access to Edlund's "Pocket Encyclopedia of Roses" from the 1960's....there is a pic of Sombrero in it showing it as you describe, cream/white with crimson and looking much fuller of bloom than the pics here. Don't know the page #---I packed up all my rose books for the winter.

Hello goncmg, How can you have a fantastic memory like that?
You are quite right and I have uploaded the cream/white with crimson edges photo to the file.
I have also send Henrique Rodrigues a private message about his orange photos (which actually are looking a bit like 'Sutter's Gold.)
Down under, winter is a time for rose books.
Patricia

Patricia! You KNOW I have that "little red rose book" I received for my 5th birthday basically MEMORIZED! LOL....I have ALL my books memorized. Which is why I finally packed them up for the time being. Because I never did find that "perfect" bookcase and they were just so strewn about.......and yes, I was also thinking "Sutter's Gold" !!!!!

McGredy's 1962 'Sombrero' seems to have been a white or pale pink, with crimson edging, according to the references. The orange photos in this file don't really match the references. Perhaps there was another 'Sombrero' rose from another breeder, but I can't find one at a quick search.
