Proof of the Pudding.
Sweepstakes HT. o-r is charged with so many faults it's a wonder the variety is still on the market. Color was muddy in NY, the plant was less than vigorous and more than stingy in about half the districts, there was bullnosing in GL and Gulf, fading in Cen and elsewhere, and both canes and stems were crooked. The high ratings cannot be explained. 7.0 (7.0) 97 rpts, 126 pls.

Proof of the Pudding.
Sweepstakes HT. o-r. 7.0 (7.5) can be exhibition but it can also ball, bull, split, hang or turn dirty. Stinginess was most severe in Cen., RM, Col and Gulf for both spring and repeat bloom. Cen wrote: "It's temperamental as its real name, Margaret Trudeau." A reporter in PJ in a similar vein, had written he had already sent his plant back to Canada. Ratings are not all that bad. 82 rptrs., 108 pls.

No. 4503. Sweepstakes HT. Issued to Samuel McGredy IV, assigned to Armstrong Nurseries Inc., Ontario, CA. December 15, 1978.

p205. Proof of the Pudding.
Sweepstakes HT. o-r. Its first year in the survey, this variety is said to be "equal to or better than" Tropicana in RM, PN, DS, NCNH and in I-I, it is a brighter orange. The ratings are solidly high although some reporters experienced sparsity either in the spring or repeat bloom. Most reporting districts noted some fragrance. An occasional reference to split centers, (PS), smallish blooms (T) and balling (G), but those complaints were not serious enough to affect the ratings. 7.5 (7.5) 67 reporters, 80 plants.

Novelty Roses 1975-1977 Introductions and Release. Exclusive McGredy Release.
Margaret Trudeau (HT, McGredy, 1977).This was released exclusively by us last year and certainly was in great demand. This is a magnificent rose, a bright unfading salmon orange produced on a strong sturdy bush. The exquisite buds come on long sturdy stems developing gracefully into large well formed blooms which are quite unfading. The lovely bloom is backed by clean, lustrous foliage. Named in honour of the noted Canadian personality. A magnificent garden rose.
