Marlborough says a good rose always in flower. Hastings likes the perfume and the quick repeat. The bush looks good in the bed but fades. Canterbury says tall and upright. Beautiful fruity scent. The blooms are rather large for the bush. Responds well to an extra dose of fertiliser. Bay of Plenty say good substance, healthy and has good repeat. Good fragrance but mites love it and has taken some black spot. Marlborough loves the soft colour and their bush flowers well. Good form and never needs disbudding.

Northland find it makes a good decorative but it can get goose necked. Has a soft colour.

'Orchid Lace' (BENorchid); Benardella; mauve blend; 14 reports on 24 plants; 1-5 years; 55cms; 7.5 rating. Another mauve and seems to be well liked by most of the reporters around the country. The blooms have good exhibition form on the large size, colour is mauve with pinkish overtones. Southland finds it balls in the rain and rather sparse in the flower department. It has done well at Te Awamutu and visitors attracted to it. Wairoa finds the fragrance lovely and good repeat of flowers. South Canterbury warns not to overfeed or the blooms become too coarse, excellent at all stages with a heavenly fragrance. Marlborough thinks the flowers are too large for the bush. Manawatu says it does not age gracefully. Well worth a try by all accounts.

Nola Simpson. Review of Newer Roses for 1993-94 Season.
'Orchid Lace' (BENorchid); Benardella; mauve blend; 13 reports on 25 plants; 1-3 years; 45cms; 7.3 rating. Another new mauve on the scene and well reported on from around the country. All agree that it is a good mauve colour with pinkish overtones. Flowers are of good form, but on the large size. Some report that the flowers are too heavy for the stems and foliage and they flop over. Bushes grow well for most, health suspect, powdery mildew in Northland.
