From the "Dingee Guide to Rose Culture", 1918, page 45
"GENERAL DE TARTAS - This Rose has no superior for bedding purposes, producing large-sized flowers which are full and fragrant. It is of good habit, and an excellent Rose in every way. The color is a brilliant carmine, deeply shaded with violet-purple, oftentimes tinged with buff.

Vigorous shrub, 5-7 feet high and wide; blooms vary in color seasonally from soft apricot to deep copper; blooms vary in form seasonally, from cupped to more muddled centers. Blooms have around 46 petals. Tea scent is outstanding. Petals have yellow at the base. Canes are glaucous, slightly reddish at the tips of new growth and not colored in exposure. Sepal margins are mostly smooth, peduncle also smooth. Hips are roughly round. Armed with prickles.

Vintage Gardens now believes the rose in commerce (in the U.S.) as 'Mme. de Tartas' is actually 'General Tartas' http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/JeriJennings/MmedeTartas9-7-6-1.jpg Per Jeri Jennings
