Beware...this company is run by a couple who have a history of jail time for business scams and took thousands of orders and did not ship. Ran out of money to give refunds...Stay away.

Can you document that assertion? Because if you can't, why ought I to believe it?

Absolutely,.....do a quick google search of Nate and Tess Fisher.. I wouldn't waste my time warning people if it wasn't true, but please go ahead and order from them and find out for yourself..? Check out FB Rose Vender Feedback and you will have all the info you need....years and years of multiple scams and jail time.

Does anyone have a source for this rose on its own roots?

Hi Cricket&Quinn, I could be wrong about this, but I believe Spirit of Freedom is too new to be offered as own root. It was introduced last year by J&P, most nurseries that propagate own root grow them for 2 years before selling them.

Chamblees nursery carries it own root, however they are not shipping until 9/07. You can place your order, though.

Please do not buy from Chamblee's, the new ownership is defrauding customers. There has been a lot of talk about this on HMF this season.

It is also available from Roses Unlimited Own Root. All of their roses are own-root. www.rosesunlimitedownroot.com
I have ordered from RU several times. Their roses are huge and hardy. They sell roses in 1 gallon size. I have been very pleased with RU's quality of roses and customer service.

My brother's mother in law has this rose climbing in his patio. It was a present from my mother, about 15 years ago. It's grafted, and it's extremely vigorous (and healthy), it was like this from the very beginning, frequently sprouting new canes from the base. It covers thickly and extensively the roof of the patio, at 3 meters above the ground, and it elegantly falls back from there, requiring quite frequent resizing pruning to avoid disturbance to people passage. It gives tons over tons of big, globular, strongly scented grouped flowers, very full of petals, and beautiful both from close up and as a mass, from distance. Definitely a winner, at least in maritime north east Italy's climate. Fragrance is strong and beautiful, a mix of some myrrh (not too much, just the right amount) and a lot of bourbon/like rose scent (i.e. Louise Odier). Blooming is almost continual and very abundant, actually this plant is really difficult to be seen without at least some flowers... it even gives some scattered flowers during the winter, and at that time they're paler (with some darker staining), very long lasting and even more strongly fragrant. I think I'll try it in my garden too, maybe taking a cutting from that plant, and making it grow on own roots.
