White, near white or white blend Large-Flowered Climber.
Registration name: Sombreuil
Exhibition name: Sombreuil
Cream to white. Moderate fragrance. 60 petals. Large, very full (41+ petals), flat, old-fashioned, rosette bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.
Height of 8' to 13' (245 to 395 cm). Width of up to 5' (up to 150 cm).
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default). Drought resistant. shade tolerant.
Sombreuil sold in the US is not the same as Mlle. de Sombreuil.
Colonial White which was introduced in the US by Wyant in 1959 was in reality Sombreuil. The ARS determined that the name Colonial White should no longer be used. Roses obtained under that name shall be shown as Sombreuil.
