Bred by Robert Ward (United Kingdom, 1862).
Introduced in Australia by Joseph Harris, South Yarra Nurseries in 1865 as 'John Hopper'.

Bloom:
Pink, carmine-pink center.  Moderate fragrance.  70 petals.  Large, double (17-25 petals), semi-globular bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles, upright.  Light green foliage.  
Height of 4' to 5' (120 to 150 cm).  Width of 3' (90 cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 5b through 10b.  Hardy.  vigorous.  Prune dead wood.
