If I heard of this rose prior to 2015 I certainly don’t recall it. It must have spent about 6 minutes on the market as by 1970 it had evaporated. Finally growing it in 2022 and have to say I’m really surprised by how solid a variety it is, surprised to the edge of impressed. Seems to thrive in heat and humidity here in NE Florida, blooms are gorgeous, nice and full, very large, good but not formal form, doesn’t fade quickly or blow too fast. Disease is not a problem, foliage is large and dull green. The color is not the most fresh or vibrant, this isn’t a cupcake icing crystalline pink, this isn’t a bright deep saturated pink. This is a dusty pink with some gold tones toward the base, a duller pink that not everyone will care for (evidentially given the time on the market). Minimal scent. Being a mauve rose or a white rose or a yellow rose and being given the label “Masterpiece” is a lot lighter an expectation than assigning “Masterpiece” to a pink or a red rose. So despite this being a really, really solid variety well worth growing there probably was no way the reality could have matched the public’s expectation of this one all those years ago which did the variety no favors. Poor thing was doomed to be a relic or curiosity immediately upon release.
