What jump started my whole love affair with roses was a 'Gene Boerner' plant in our yard 40+ years ago and Henry Edlund's "Pocket Encyclopedia of Roses" which I got fpor my 5th birthday in 1972 after my parents noted my fascination with "Gene".............SEA PEARL, in the Edlund book, looks amazing. I recall my parents mentioning how "gorgeous" it was in the photo and for years it was not in the US until Edmunds stocked it in the 80's........................and once we GOT it? Sort of anti-climactic! It is a GOOD rose, it sure is. It is lovely, it is fine, it also PHOTOGRAPHS better than it looks in person and I am only posting this because ALLLLL the pictures HERE also look BETTER than Sea Pearl does in person! It is very similar to 'Little Darling' but LD is a much bigger grower.....it is close to 'Faberge' in that they both have a "sort of" big bloom on a "sort of" big plant that "sort of" defies classification....................Sea Pearl is marginally available now and as much as I want to bemoan this, well, no.............THIS is one that I actually CAN see why it is not really around now and in a few years simply will not be.................a good rose, an odd mix of "should have been more widely released in its day" and "not that notable" at the end of it all...................and possibly the only rose EVER to look better in photos than in person............................
