Can Semiplena have such red buds??
Is it possibly Madame Plantier?

Hi Anonymous,
I got this rose from Knud Pedersen's nursery in Jutland. It was labelled Semiplena, and the open flower is identical to all pics I have seen of Semiplena. I have it in a rather shaded spot, maybe that's why the buds look a bit pink? I also have Mme Plantier, and it is definitely not the same rose.
So I can't be 100% sure but I am almost sure it is Semiplena. If you have any pics of Semiplena buds I'd be very glad to see them to compare.
best wishes
Maribel

Hi Maribel!
You are probably quite correct, then. I am from Norway (Arendal), and most of my own roses come from Knud Pedersen, as my favourite local nursery get all their roses from him.
Semiplena I have had for years, and there has never been pink buds, but the location you grow it in may perhaps account for it. Mme. Plantier i just planted this Spring, and of course her buds are quite pink, but I now see in photos (I have none of her myself yet) that the buds are much more rounded than on your rose.
Sorry for being anonymous! It is only because I am experiencing difficulties in registering with HMF. I have sent a message to Support and hope the problem will soon be solved.
All the best!

Hi Brit,
You're right, the buds are very different on Mme Plantier and Semiplena. I've posted another pic of what I think is my Semiplena a bit more open. You can see that the slender, lax growth form and flowers held at the end of the stems is also very typical of Semiplena. Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the fully open flower with yellow stamens, but they are there.

I think Semiplena is probably the most graceful rose that I have. I planted mine in a quite shady spot in my garden behind a large apple tree, and I regret this a little bit as it is too beautiful to be hidden like that. But despite me, it really seems to like its spot and flowers prolifically.

I hope your registry problem is solved soon, I had the same thing when I initially signed up and HMF support took care of it very quickly.
Good luck with your new Mme Plantier and nice to hear from you
Maribel

Hello!
Last year, as a guest, I commented on some plant-info on your site.
Now I am trying to register, but I am told my e-mail is already on record, and that the password I just see as asterisks is wrong. I am asked to press the "I have forgotten my password" button, - but I can't find any! Will you please help me so that I can register and upload my photos?
Many thanks!

Best wishes,
Brit
