The stems on my French Perfume rose are thin and do not support the weight of its flower. None of my other roses have done this. The rose is 2 year old and I had the same problem last year. When I water, the stems break from the weight of the rose. I have 2 tree roses of French Perfume and this is a problem with both. Is this a problem with this rose?

I have a French Perfume which came with the house we purchased 5 years ago. It's very sturdy -- upright habit and strong canes -- but last year it seemed to be lagging. The canes were thinner, but not breaking like yours. I trimmed away a dogwood and redbud tree so it got more morning sun. I added a couple of tablespoons of epsom salts to the feeding schedule. I've been more consistent with feeding/spraying this year. All the roses, including French Perfume, are much perkier because of this. I have no idea if what I did actually strengthened the canes/stems but it couldn't hurt. You might try cutting back to a strong cane. Be sure to trim her way back next spring.

My French Perfume had weak stems at first, but it has gotten stronger each year. I'm sure with time and TLC yours will get stronger too.
