Love this one for a few reasons the first being I was 12 when I found it waxed and bagged at a Sears store in Columbus and when I unbagged it there were basically no roots yet it exploded into healthy growth and survived several years until the legendary winter of 83-84 when temps hit -25 in Columbus and many died............secondly, it is somewhat notable as a parent rose, able to transfer its rather unique bicolor gene and when this one came out in 1937 and as I write this I am fairly certain it was somewhat ahead of its time because I cannot think of those many true bicolors that preceded it..........wirey, willowy plant, sprawls everywhere and the leaves are not attractive, and they are sparse, and it clusters a lot and the stems are too weak to hold any blooms so often the canes bend to the mud.......hybridizing for fun as I do, once my band gets stronger (next year?) I want to try using its bicolor-ability against something modern and see what happens.....a good choice for a historical garden and would good (as many willowy sprawly ones do) in a mixed border........
