Remember this one well from the early 80's: always amazed that at release the color was listed as "r" when in actuality it is not even CLOSE to that! It is, as the pictures posted here show, a solid pink blend, pb, with the tones leaning rather earthy..................grew this one side/side with Patsy Cline and I think they both share Angel Face as a parent and were both released the same year. The plant habit of both remind me of Apricot Nectar: big and wide, the bloom a little small for an HT and some clusters but not enough for a FL.....two more that could easily fit into the ill-defined mutt group of GR here in the US................I liked Almondeen. I sort of wanted to replace it when it fell to the winter of 84 in 6a but I didn't....................and guess that says something. Pretty sure Sunrise-Sunset from 1971 was a better form, a more shapely plant, and with similar or even more interesting colors and that Patsy Cline had/has insanely good fragrance whereas this one has none...............a relic, would like to find it again, but as I pull my emotions and rose colored glasses out of the equation, probably not one that I would drum beat to get re-released.................notable in no manner.................

Sunrise-Sunset was a significantly stronger, healthier grower for me in my old Newhall garden. Neither Almondeen nor Patsy were decent plants there. They were interesting, but I honestly don't miss them. I know none of them would be healthy in my new climate.

I am SOOOO trying to track down budwood of Sunrise-Sunset. Rumor has it that it may be in the garden in Norfolk, VA and/or Portland, OR.............any info, Kim?

I wish I did. I'm sorry. I haven't seen one of those for a number of years now. Sad how many neat roses WERE readily available just a few years ago, which now seem extinct.

Yeah, I've chatted about this one with Bagnasco and he is holding out for Portland but looks like this one is gone as far as anyone having it who knows what it is...............1971! And somehow Almondeen is available-ish? Firelight and Fireside are 2 more from the 70's that as far as I can tell are gone............and one was a Rose of the Year with J&P! You've told me before that not every rose deserves to be around, and this is true even if I do NOT take my emotions out of it..............but how can like SPELLBINDER be down to JUST at DAVIS yet Heirloom is now on mega-release and back in garden centers? Because Fragrant Plum, Sweetness, Barbra, Melody Parfumee..............they couldn't get the job done? Heirloom is SO AMAZING? Yes, fragrance is in............etc............it is so random..............fascinating, marketing sociology, not random, but random...........................lol
