I’m quite fond of this Rose. It has lovely glossy bright green leaves. It does get some black spot but it quickly sheds it and sends out new growth quickly. The scent is lovely. I’d say medium and sweet. It also sets viable seeds but not many per hip.
This cultivar was quite susceptible to Powdery Mildew here in California's low sub-tropical desert region. Infection was bad enough that I gave the plant away.
I can say with confidence having had pearl drift many years that in this gulf coast climate it has never been aflicted with mildew. A spectacularly healthy rose here. We get 56 in rain per year and summer are hot and humid. Here its foliage is exceptionally clean. Outstanding garden merit for this region. Apparently it does not do well in dry climates. Its parents said to be the mermaid x new dawn both do exceptionally well here. But there seems to be some question re lineage.
It hasn't suckered for me but i don't know the root stock. Maybe own root. Considering that one of its parents is said to be The Mermaid one might expect it to be a rampant grower. It's been mannerly for me and very clean and beautiful shiny foliage. Possibly it came from Pickering.
