At a show in Trier in 1900, a competition was held to choose a rose worthy to be named 'Otto von Bismarck', the prizes being the honour and three thousand marks to go with it. Peter Lambert entered his white rose, but lost, and had the satisfaction of hearing the lamentations of the jury when later in the day they visited his nursery and saw their discard growing. I do not know for what reason the winner’s introduction was delayed until 1908; it was a pink Hybrid Tea, bred by Hermann Kiese of Viselbach-Erfurt; it had a short run. Peter Lambert was more successful in Berlin, where his rose was selected to bear the name of “Frau Karl Druschki”, wife of the President of the Society concerned in that exhibition.
