*Growing in southern Arizona, Sonoran thornscrub at about 2500 ft altitude, USDA zone 9, Sunset zone 12* Bought from ARE in 2022, planted out during a mild spell that winter. 04-2023 Mrs. F has taken her time leafing out and setting buds. She has lovely foliage. First bloom opened 04-25-23. Excellent fragrance and color already. Seems a bit thirsty for her size; will watch that. July 7, 2023 Mrs. F is struggling with our current heat dome, temps in excess of 106 F/41 C daily, single digit humidity, and high UV. I think the very loose soil, though amended, is doing her no favors. Some dieback has occurred already. As this is still quite a small plant, first year in the ground, I don't know whether she will pull through. I hope so, as I love the style of the foliage and flowers! She is well mulched with sawdust and receives frequent deep soakings. Fingers crossed!
