p418. 'Mrs. Oakley Fisher'. Modern, large-flowered hybrid tea. Deep yellow, repeat-flowering. This rose has buds of rich orange with random red flushes that open to buff copper flowers with golden stamens. The fragrant, single florets are borne in clusters on stems that often appear to have a weak appearance. It can be trained to resemble a lower-growing shrub rather than a tall Large-flowered rose. ‘Mrs. Oakley Fisher’ has endured for almost 75 years because of its charming flowers, which are set against a background of beautiful bronze, disease-resistant foliage. This classic rose has been described by various writers as a Large-flowered Rose, a Cluster-flowered Rose and a shrub rose. Zones 5-10. Cant, UK 1921. Parentage unknown. National Rose Society Certificate of Merit 1921, Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden merit 1993.

'Mrs. Oakley Fisher'. Cant, UK 1921. In the gardens of those who admire single-flowered roses, in constant flower through the season, borne on a large shrub, this exquisite variety is not overlooked. Shapely buds open into 5-petalled blooms of soft buff-yellow, deliciously fragrant. At Sissinghurst Castle, Kent, it achieves some 5 feet by 5 feet. Strictly a Hybrid Tea, but it fits well with roses in this chapter (Shrub roses), providing much-needed yellow, or would assort with Hybrid Musks.
