Bred by James Lee (United Kingdom, before 1824).
Introduced in United Kingdom by Lee & Kennedy / Vineyard Nursery Hammersmith in 1824 as 'Rosa canina rubra Andr.'.
Class:
Hybrid Canina.  
Bloom:
Crimson to scarlet.  Medium to large, semi-double to double, cluster-flowered, expanded bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  Ovoid buds.  
Habit:
Spreading, upright.  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
Andrews reports Rosa canina emarginata and Rosa canina rubra as introductions of the Hammersmith Nursery. These are most probably 'Hebe's Lip' and 'Scarlet Hip'.
