'Vicomtesse Pierre du Fou' rose Reviews & Comments

I'm told that one rose circulating under this name is probably Cl Mme Caroline Testout.
Marcir's photos are in keeping with the description of Vicomtesse Pierre du Fou.

Mine is from Branchi. I also have Clg. Mme Caroline Testout, which is quite different. The blloms are uniform pink and they have a very typical globular, mostly closed form. VPdF is rather loosely built and varies in its colours.

Your Vicomtesse looks like a lovely rose.

I have both of these climbers too, and Mme. Caroline Testout is a more uniform, clear pink, and globular. This rose is a warmer pink. My plant was originally from Peter Beales' stock, and offered by Vintage Gardens. It turns out, it is not the real "Vicomtesse Pierre du Fou". Vintage now sells the real one. I'll post a picture of my impostor. It just started blooming.

Redwood rose, there is a strong case for identifying Beales' Vicomtesse as the original gigangtea 'Etoile du Portugal.' Most of the alternative candidates are more than once flowering, eliminating themselves for that reason. Beales' Vicomtesse has beautiful gigantea-formed leaves. This idea is due to John Hook in the south of France, as you probably know.
