So the male parent was orange. I had to look this up from the patent since it was used in Cinnamon Hearts. I wondered what was so dang special about a forgotten grandiflora from the 1990s.

I picked up Candelabra own-root from Roses Unlimited this year. It's bloomed a few times, and, so far, I'm a fan. A strong, interesting color that doesn't fade and didn't burn. Not much scent, but that's not a deal breaker for me. This is more along the lines of what I was hoping New Year would be when I tried it.	REPLY

Everything about this one is/was 30 years behind. The color. THE NAME. Not a BAD rose at all! Might lack some distinction, might remind a saavy grower of DUET from 1962. May LOOK like Duet x Tropicana. Probably not really up to AARS standards and most likely goes into the AARS "oops" file.	REPLY

I've come so very close to getting this rose. I love 70's-ish style orange roses. A lot of times I end up liking roses most people don't like. But, if I get one, something in the garden needs to go, haha. I think Roses Unlimited has this one own-root...I wonder how that pans out.	REPLY

I need to know you, DRoss!!!!!! My email blew up tonight with all of your wonderful comments and we share a love of mid-century orange! Please take a gander at Bolongo Bay, my rose, hybridized in the 2010's but was my shot at 1965-75 O-R GR and I got lucky and nailed it, lol. Actually I was trying to recreate the Lammerts' long lost "Los Angeles Beautiful" from 1967 and figured little Hawaiian Delight was "close enough" to Rumba....

I recall when this came out.

Absolutely no fanfare for it. I was excited, because it was orange.

I grew it. And ho-hum. Very boring. It grows fine. Vigor is moderate. Rebloom is okay. Resistances are average. But it has absolutely no personality anywhere. That would be great, if it was a landscape rose. But it isn't one.

And my opinion seems to be the consensus. This rose came and went without a word. An AARS winner, no less.
