Bred by Peter Lambert (Germany, before 1901).
Introduced in Germany by Peter Lambert in 1902 as 'Gustav Grünerwald'.
Introduced in Australia by C. H. Halstead in 1904 as 'Gustav Grünerwald'.
Class:
Hybrid Tea.  
Bloom:
Carmine-pink, yellow shading.  Strong fragrance.  Large, double (17-25 petals), borne mostly solitary, high-centered to cupped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Long, pointed buds.  
Habit:
Thornless (or almost), upright.  Glossy, dark green, leathery foliage.  

Height: 3' (90cm).  Width: 3' (90cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 10b.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.

Notes:
Dedicated to Gustav Emil Grünerwald (February 1, 1835 Lysohn, Livland - August 5, 1918 Gatschina), Court Gardener of Baltic German origin at the royal Gatschina palace, about 45 km south of St.Petersburg.

Different Parentages are given, please see References. The parentage "Safrano x Mme Caroline Testout" is possibly a miscommunication, as the latter is actually the parent of Grossherzogin Victoria Melitta. Lambert refers to its indirect descent from Testout in his communication to "Die Gartenkunst" in 1901.
