you're welcome. Sadly, this looks to be one of so many that will not be available anywhere in the US after Vintage Gardens closes up shop.

It may not even be available now in the US. I bought one from Vintage, but the provenance is sadly lacking. The id seems to be no more than a guess. From what I've seen so far it does not seem to fit the historical descriptions. For one thing it would be quite a stretch to call any of its flowers lemon yellow. The blooms look white with perhaps a touch of creme, but there ain't no yellow! Not even when the flowers first open, whether in full sun or shade.

The roses named Alberic Barbier, La perle and Francois Foucard I bought or I have seen somewhere else seem to be the same roses - in my Rosenpark Reinhausen they ARE the same.

I have the version of François Foucard that Vintage sold. It has red stamens. They are yellow on my version of La Perle.

It's very vigorous. I had to move it several years ago because it was taking over the front of my house. It's still recovering in my back yard, but I'm thinking this year will finally be another good year for it.

We went to the Tulsa Rose Garden today, in spite of it being a rainy day. Wanted to get some "hands on" research on roses for future purchases. With hundreds of roses there, just a few truly stood out to me with wonderful health, bloom and fragrance. I'm also wanting as few thorns as possible. To my amazement, I was blown away by a rose that had not one bloom on it. The foliage was 100% healthy, with hundreds around it plagued with lots of blackspot, which is a huge problem in our area. This rose had very tiny, very manageable thorns, beautiful arching burgundy branches with ferny looking foliage that reminded me of the mimosa trees from my youth. What a beautiful plant it is! Of course when I looked at the name plate, it was Father Hugo. Rest assured, I'll find a place somewhere on our small lot for this gorgous, graceful plant! Barb

You mention "tiny" thorns. Going through the photos, I'm seeing substantial thorns. here's an example: http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?l=21.194132 What's typical, I wonder?

At the bottom of the canes, say the first 20-45 cm there are a few not so very big prickles. higher up the canes no prickles at all... as far as I can see in my garden and on my plant of Hugonis.

It would be very helpful to include the e-mail address to which paypal payments can be sent on your membership info. and donation info. pages.
That way, a person could choose to go directly to paypal and make a payment, rather than clicking through from the site.

thank you for posting a photo of hips. This aspect tends to be so neglected that it is sometimes difficult even to discover whether a plant sets hips or not, never mind their colour, size, etc. Yet they are so good for us, and for the birds, as well as beautiful to look at in their season.

I thoroughly agree. The more information we can have on hips, the better. See the HelpMeFind glossary on Hips.

Thanks for pointing that out. What you've added there is very informative. It would be great to be able to search on "has hips" in the advanced search here on HMF. (and for others, being able to search on "no hips" might be useful too). Do you know if there's a spot for making suggestions like that?

Paani.......
You can do an ADVANCED SEARCH for roses that produce hips. Just click on GROWING and scroll down to where you find the box for PRODUCES DECORATIVE HIPS and tick the box and click CONTINUE and SEARCH. I got 34 pages of rose links in my search.
Please note that HMF is a work-in-progress and the data is continuously being updated. There are probably many roses in the database that do produce hips that may not come up in the search. The reason for this is that the roses may have been added to the database prior to the plant characteristics feature and the rose page has not been updated. Or we do not have a REFERENCE or MEMBER COMMENT stating that a rose produces hips.
The good news is that when a site user points out that the rose page is missing a plant characteristic, we do update the rose page.
Smiles, Lyn
