This rose is now being called "Grandma's Yellow Rose" by our supplier. I was told the name was changed because nobody could spell Nacogdoches.

"Nacagdoches Rose" is a wonderful name. The grande dames of found roses are turning in their graves! The reason a "found" rose is circulated under one and only one name - - the first name given to it by the finder- - is so that it is not lost in a confusion of names. This as a perfect opporunity to learn to spell Nacagdoches, the oldest town in Texas. It is sad that businesses think we are so dumb.

Some people at rosehybridizers.org are trying to figure out this rose's identity... A list of canidates: Celebrity, Oregold, Sunblest, Golden State, and Holtermann's Gold.

I would add Allgold to the list. This Le Grice rose was tested in the UK, Germany and the Netherlands and is hardy to Zone 5. The blooms are unfading and produced singly and in clusters. It wouldn't surprise me if it grew much, much larger in a southern climate, like a Grandiflora.

Spelling Nacogdoches wasn't hard but for this northern girl learning to say it was another thing! I love the name and vigorously oppose calling it something else.

In the general HMF list, the codename for White Eden (sport of Eden) is different from what you quote. I hope that Meilland aren't re-using the name. Red Eden / Red Pierre is not an offspring or sport of Eden; presumably a marketing ploy, to give it those names.

We already have each of these listed on HMF.
'White Out' is listed as 'Rosa White Out' 'Red' Eden as is. 'White Eden' as is (PP 16,739) but as noted by Margaret we have a different breeder code. Can you confirm this is a new rose ?
Please note the How Do I... button includes instructions on the various methods of looking up plants on HMF.
Thanks!

Question: Is Ingrid Bergman off patent yet? I see that it was granted on 8/30/88. I'm not sure how long the patents last. I have read/heard 17 years or 20. Can anyone clear this up? Mike Anders [HMF Editor] Mike, no need to include your email address as HMF will email you a notification when someone responds to your post. Including your email in the message text is inviting spammers.

Mike......... The plant patent law was revised to allow for 20 year plant patents. Smiles, Lyn, helpmefind.com

The name is also trademarked, making it illegal to sell this rose under that name without paying royalties indefinitely.

There is a newer "Sweet Promise™" by Meilland which we have this year. It is not the Sweet Promise you have listed as a synonym for Sonia (MEIhelvet). This is a new introduction (MEIgoudea) for 2007. It is a new Romantica®. I believe it is a Hybrid Tea, but it is not clear in their catalog. Thanks, Paul Downs xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
